chapel lane routine

Mornings at Chapel Lane

9am We open the door for children to come in (parents too, if necessary, but we do

encourage children to come in independently, as they will do when they move up to

school)

9.15am When all the children are here, the door is locked and we have our first

‘Carpet Time’. This is when we find out the day and date, we do the register, and we

talk about what we are learning today. Sometimes we start with a story, too.

9.30am Busy time! Children choose what to do and what to play with in the

playroom. During this time, each adult will oversee a learning activity, which gives us

time to work with individual children on things like painting, counting, building, model-

making, craft, book skills and maths (to name a few!)

10.30am ‘Tidy up time!’ And when the playroom is tidy, we have our second ‘Carpet

Time’ where we might play a listening game together or sing some songs before

snack time.

10.40am Snack time. We all wash our hands and sit together for snack, which is

provided by us.

11am After snack, the children do some building on the carpet while the adults

supervise children using the toilet, change nappies and tidy away the snack things.

Building with magnetic shapes, blocks and Duplo helps children’s brains develop in

so many ways – and it’s great fun!

11.20 (ish!) Garden time! We finish each morning with some fresh air outside. We

have bikes and scooters, balls and push chairs, a climbing frame and slide, a mud

kitchen, a trampoline and a play house. We help children develop their balance and

co-ordination, their confidence and their ability to move in many different ways.

12pm Home time!
